Bud burst has begun!

Bud burst in our vineyard is well underway. Although we have had a very wet start to spring, the vines are loving the moisture and soaking up the sun rays when they are shining. Our nebbiolo burst first, situated high up on our property and facing north. The merlot and sangiovese are not far behind now, with spur pruning in the sangiovese keeping things neat and tidy. 

We are hoping for a sensational growing season this year to make even more wine next vintage. So do your sun dance and cross your fingers and toes for no natural disasters. We welcome the spring energy & growth in the vines to create a bountiful harvest for 2017. 


New release Reds just around the corner!

The time is nearing for our new release 2015 reds to approach the bench. Sangiovese and montepulciano will make an appearance in the coming months. These varieties, both Italian in origin, boast easy drinking with plenty of flavour, vibrant colour and dry finish. 

The montepulciano grape variety is well known for being prominent in the Abruzzo region, however there is a town called "Montepulciano" in Tuscany though sangiovese is a dominant variety grown here. 

Wines will be available from our Cellar Door in the coming months. Australian grown and made montepulciano is a rare find so do come in and try this special variety for yourself. Limited stock is available.

Bright P12 School Wine Project 2016

Bright P12 College "Twelve Bright Vines" Wine Project.

We are pleased to be hosting the launch of the 2016 '12 Bright Vines' Bright P12 Sauvignon Blanc this Friday Aug 12th. Now in it's 3rd year running, this community project linked the school with local businesses, provided understanding of the wine industry, and delivered employability skills. Teachers and students from Bright P12 College, together with Mick Dalbosco and Bruce Holm of Ringer Reef Winery have made this project possible. Thanks to all involved! Come and get some wine!

Wines are available to purchase from Ringer Reef's Cellar Door. 6 pack box = $80. Fantastic value for this fresh & delightful 2016 Sauvignon Blanc. Label art was designed by a student and all proceeds go back to the school to help develop their program.

"Pablo" the Spanish Wheel

Meet "Pablo", our Spanish wheel. We use Pablo to riddle our sparkling bottles which are on point in this bin! An important step in creating our sparkling wines. We spin the bin to shake all the dead yeast to the top of the neck (live yeast is added to the still wine to create a second fermentation in the bottle, producing carbon dioxide), then pop these babies in our neck freezer to freeze the top, pop out the dead yeast cap and re-top. Hey presto, you got bubbles in your bottle!




Say hello to VSM (Vespolina Sangiovese Merlot)

VSM or Vespolina Sangiovese Merlot is a special blend of all things delicious! Bruce Holm, owner and winemaker at Ringer Reef has come up with this well balanced 'easy drinker' after our harvest yield was reduced care of a Mother Nature's hail storm back in Dec 2015. From this however, Bruce was inspired to blend these three beauties to create a wine that is best described as 'the ultimate terrace sitter'. A wine to drink while enjoying a platter and soaking up the majestic views of the Ovens Valley. Vespolina brings the rose-hip, Sangiovese some softer structure and the Merlot adds depth with a lovely dry finish. 

This wine is made from 50% Vespolina, 25% Sangiovese and 25% Merlot grapes. Vespolina is an unusual variety grown in the northern part of Piedmont in northern Italy. This wine has a bright and attractive colour, a rose perfumed nose and a touch of spice. Simply made and bottled in May 2016.

New vintage releases just around the corner!

We are pleased to announce our new vintage wine releases are just around the corner. With well sort after varieties such as Petit Manseng, Sauvignon Blanc, and our long awaited Rose' coming in around June, your wine rack can look well stocked once again! Also soon to be released is our Sparkling Merlot, and we will roll over in the coming months to our 2015 Sangiovese and 2014 Merlot.

Vintage 2016 is well under way!

We have started picking our grapes for our 2016 vintage here at Ringer Reef and all is off to a great start. The weather has been absolutely spectacular with warm days and cool nights. Classic cool climate growing conditions are leaving happy grapes on the vines. But not for long! As we are looking to finish just before Easter and have all the wines 'put to bed'. 

Of the 9 varietals we have planted on our 10 acres, we are hoping to pull of plenty of luscious fruit to see us through the next year of wine enjoyment! Pinot Noir, Chardonnay (sparkle base) and Sauvignon Blanc are all just about off. Our Petit Manseng, Moscato Giallo, Chardonnay, Sangiovese, Montepulciano, and Merlot all yet to come. Conditions are good, and the valley is a complete picture this summer with plenty of solid rain to keep the greenness grinning!

We will release new vintages around June and for those eagerly awaiting the next vintage of their favourite varietal, be sure to pop your head and have a try. If there is something in particular you are waiting for, perhaps a currently sold out varietal you simply must have when released, shoot us an email and you can go on the pre-release "inform me" list! We will be in touch as soon as they are ready. 

We have turned 10!

It's been 10 wonderful years since Annie & Bruce opened their cellar door to the public back in 2006. And so chose to celebrate with three days of festivities at the winery. Inviting family, friends, local businesses and of course customers, some of which have been coming to the winery from the beginning. 

Over the weekend of Jan 8, 9 & 10 we hosted hundreds of guests from near and far to help us celebrate this milestone not only in business but in the journey of what Annie and Bruce have created. Good music, delicious food, great wine & festive family fun where the theme and all were invited to enjoy the surrounding views of the beautiful valley we live. 

Thank you to all who came and attended on one, some, or all of the days. We had such a great turn out and were so grateful to all our customers and suppliers who helped make it a sensational weekend:

The Cats Pyjamas, Trixie the Clown, Alpine Air Stream coffee van with local Sixpence Coffee, Wendy's Gourmet Spud Train, local musicians: Joe Davis, Ricki Wood, Adam Lindsay, & Rudi Katterl and Marissa Quigley all played their great tunes.
